Peak Performance:Extract from "Mind Games" By Mandy Payne (Sunday Times) Carole Mills, 44, is a Senior Tax Partner in a large accountancy firm in Richmond. She initially started having neurofeedback treatment to control the tension that exacerbates her asthma, but noticed that her concentration improved markedly as the treatment progressed. Carole has had 24 sessions. "Since starting the training I've substantially reduced my asthma drugs. But the amazing benefit is that I get much more work done. Although I still get a buzz from work a lot of the adrenaline has been eliminated. You'd think you need the adrenaline but in fact with less of a stress reaction I perform better and am more in control." Surinder Kaur finds her trainees sometimes want to keep the sessions a secret. "Executives might not want their colleagues to know what they're doing, as though it's cheating or there's something 'wrong' with their brain. Brains are complex, dynamic and have imperfections, which is why we are all different. You might be good at numbers but poor at making judgments, or could be hampered by feelings of stress and tension, and those things can be changed."
